What is spirituality and why is it needed?

Spirituality is related to the spirit or the soul where we learn the importance of empowerment of soul which is possible through higher consciousness. Spirituality is simply an implementation of consciousness and consciousness is simply the Grace of God, which is utilized to create the entire universe. Spirituality is needed to enjoy a better quality of life, with happiness. Higher consciousness is essential here because consciousness has the property of organization and evolution.

Consider crude oil. In its raw form, crude oil is one of the most toxic substances on the planet. A chaotic mixture of thousands of hydrocarbon compounds contaminated with benzene, a known carcinogen, and heavy metals like arsenic, lead, and mercury. It poisons soil, kills marine life, destroys ecosystems, and causes cancer. The Deepwater Horizon spill devastated the Gulf of Mexico. The Gulf War oil release destroyed 770 kilometers of coastline. Unrefined crude oil is chaos, destruction, and poison.

But the same crude oil, through the process of refining, becomes the foundation of modern civilization. Through fractional distillation, this single chaotic substance is organized into distinct fractions: gasoline for transportation, kerosene for aircraft, diesel for industry, lubricating oils for machinery, asphalt for roads. Through further processing, it evolves into over 6,000 everyday products most people never associate with petroleum: aspirin, heart valves, contact lenses, artificial limbs, clothing fibres, fertilizers, and even lipstick. From one dark, toxic liquid comes medicine, shelter, and energy for entire nations.

This is organization. This is evolution. This is precisely how consciousness operates.

Without refining, crude oil poisons everything it touches. With refining, the same substance builds civilization. The substance did not change. The outcome changed with purification. The potential was always there, locked inside.

This is exactly what spirituality does. Without higher consciousness, a human being is like unrefined crude oil. The potential is enormous but remains chaotic and destructive. Stress, anger, jealousy, greed, restlessness — these are the toxins of an unrefined life. The capacity for love, compassion, creativity, wisdom, and purpose is already present inside, just as 6,000 products are present inside crude oil. But without spirituality, that potential remains locked.

Spirituality is the refining process for the human soul. It organizes the chaotic into the purposeful. It evolves the destructive into the healing. And just as refining crude oil requires a precise process, the empowerment of the soul requires the precision of higher consciousness, which is the Grace of God.

This is why spirituality is needed. Not as ritual or tradition. Because without it, the enormous potential inside every human being remains unrefined, unexpressed, and wasted. With it, the same human being becomes a source of light and transformation for the entire world.

Here is another example to understand spirituality.

Water has three forms. Ice, liquid water, and steam. Non-living materials can be related with ice: rigid, immobile, fixed in one shape. A rock remains a rock for a million years. Low consciousness. No capacity for growth or multiplication.

Microbes, plants, trees, and animals can be related with water. Water flows, adapts, sustains life. Living organisms multiply and grow. But their consciousness is limited by instinct. A tree grows for centuries but cannot choose to grow differently. An animal survives but cannot question the meaning of its survival.

Humans can be related with steam. The highest state of consciousness. Steam rises, moves freely, is not bound by ground. This is human consciousness: the ability to think, create, love, sacrifice, and question existence itself.

But normal steam, the kind floating from a boiling kettle at 100 degrees Celsius, drifts and dissipates. It is constantly on the edge of condensing back into water. Enormous potential, but no direction, no concentrated power. This is most human beings. Struggling for survival, struggling against the constant pull of falling back into a lower state.

Now consider superheated steam. In power plants, steam is heated to 400 to 600 degrees Celsius and compressed to pressures 60 to 300 times atmospheric. This transformed steam rotates turbines that generates huge amount of electricity in the United States. A single turbine can produce 1,500 megawatts, enough to power over a million homes. The molecules are identical. H2O. But normal steam cannot rotate a single blade. Worse, if unsuperheated steam enters a turbine, the water droplets that form as it condenses strike the blades with enough force to crack and fracture them. Unrefined potential does not just fail to generate power. It destroys the very machinery designed to harness it.

This is why spirituality is needed. A human without higher consciousness is like normal steam: potential present but diffused, directionless, and potentially destructive. A human with higher consciousness is like superheated steam: same substance, same nature, but operating at a completely different level of energy and focus, generating power that benefits millions.

The journey from normal steam to superheated steam requires controlled heating and sustained pressure. The journey from a normal human to an enlightened human requires the same. That process is spirituality. That heat and pressure is higher consciousness.

Spirituality does not change what you are. It changes the state at which you operate.
